With just over two weeks remaining until the regular season begins, the Mariners continue their preparations for what is an important year.
Monday was a busy day for the Seattle Mariners, as executive vice president and general manager of baseball operations Justin Hollander made a couple of announcements. The first was to confirm the team had agreed to terms for this season, with 25 pre-arbitration eligible players on the 40-man roster.
Among these were 16 pitchers as follows:
Ty Adcock, Eduard Bazardo, Cody Bolton, Matt Brash, Emerson Hancock, George Kirby, Jackson Kowar, Mauricio Llovera, Bryce Miller, Gregory Santos, Tayler Saucedo, Collin Snider, Gabe Speier, Levi Stoudt, Carlos Vargas and Bryan Woo.
The other nine were position players as follows:
Dominic Canzone, Jonatan Clase, Blake Hunt, Cade Marlowe, Cal Raleigh, Luke Raley, Samad Taylor, Taylor Trammell and Seby Zavala.
Roster moves
Hollander subsequently announced some roster moves. Trevor Kelley and Marcelo Perez were re-assigned to minor league camp, while Levi Stoudt was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma.
Stoudt, who was previously selected in the third round of the Major League draft by the Mariners, was recently claimed off waivers from the Reds. He had previously been traded to Cincinnati, as part of the deal which brought in Luis Castillo.
As a result of these moves, the Mariners now have 51 players at spring training, comprising 37 roster players and 14 non-roster invitees. This breaks down as 26 pitchers — 19 on the 40-man roster and seven non-roster invitees — and 25 position players — 18 on the 40-man-roster and seven non-roster invitees.

Terms agreed with Jason Vosler
Although not confirmed by the Mariners themselves at the time of posting, as per Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors, they have also agreed a minor league deal with free agent Jason Vosler. He represents yet another of those versatile players who Jerry Dipoto likes to sign.
Vosler has three years of Major League experience, having played a total of 97 games with the San Francisco Giants and Cincinnati Reds. In that time he mostly lined up at first and third base, but has also seen some time at second base, shortstop and both outfield corner positions.
In truth the 30-year-old’s impact with the bat has been limited to date, with a career .210/.279/.408 slash line, .687 OPS and 87 OPS+. Encouragingly though, he did have success during 2022 in San Francisco, when he produced a .265/.342/.469 slash line, .812 OPS and 129 OPS+ in 36 games.
Where the Mariners hope Vosler really offers some value, is offering some depth as a left-handed bat. He was selected in the 16th round of the 2014 Major League draft.
