Sounders FC’s match with Philadelphia Union postponed due to weather

Six minutes into the contest the Sounders game versus the Philadelphia Union was delayed and then postponed  Give credit to the match official for making the right decision. The pitch was soggy and the ball sat in water-logged patches on the pitch.

“ Raul Cristian and everybody wanted to play, head coach Brian Schmetzer said during a press conference after the decision was made. “ It was the continued rain and the condition of the field. I started thinking about the injury list. Is the field safe?  We have a long injury list and I started thinking would it make sense to have some guy sit and get stiff then play later. “

SPECIFIC RULES

According to Schmetzer, there are certain player protocols the club will need to follow once the game is scheduled.  Both teams have to use the same starting lineup and if a starter from the postponed match is injured he has to be replaced by a substitute from that bench.
