Seahawks keep playoff hopes alive with another dramatic win

Geno Smith’s five-yard touchdown pass to Colby Parkinson with 57 seconds late in the game delivered another heart-thumping victory for the Seahawks.  The 20-17 win over the Titans put the Seahawk’s playoff destiny in their hands with two games left in the season.

A ROUGH FIRST HALF

The Seahawks played a lethargic first half in which the offense gained a total of 93 net yards. A mere 30 yards on the ground was a result of a dismal 2-7 third-down conversion rate which was caused by a lack of execution by the offensive line. In addition to the offense the defense also had it’s struggles giving up 113 rushing yards and 170 total yards for the half .

A POISED SECOND HALF

Despite the dismal first-half effort by the offense, the Seahawks went into the halftime breakdown within striking distance at  10-3.  A Jason Myers 27-yard field goal to start the second half saw the Seahawks climb within four points at 10-6.  The Seahawk’s defense made some halftime adjustments that paid dividends. The Titans stalled on their first possession of the second half and punted the ball to the Seahawks. Smith seized the opportunity and engineered  10-play 96-yard drive that ended with an 11-yard pass to DK Metcalf that gave the Seahawks their first lead of the game at 13-10.

FRANTIC FINISH

The Titans answered on their ensuing offensive possession with a gut-punching 15-play 75-yard drive that was capped by a  Derrick Henry two-yard run. The 8:49-yard drive left the Seahawk’s defense grasping for air and winded. With time winding down  Smith engineered his fourth game-winning drive of the season. The 14-play 75-yard drive saw the Seahawks take the lead on  Colby Parkinson five five-yard touchdown reception.

Smith completed 7 of 10 passes on the game-winning drive. The drive took up 2:24 seconds of the game clock and gave the defense the rest it needed for the final push. A fired-up Seahawks defense sacked Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill on two of the Titan’s final six plays to end the game.
