Two days after his teams beat the Philadelphia Eagles 20-17 to snap a four-game losing streak head coach Pete Carroll is the get-right win will invigorate his team.
“I hope we took it right, and we’re going to take the next step not being drawn back into it, but it was reinforced, said Carroll during his weekly press conference. “
It was reinforcing because we finished so well. The battle cry around here is finishing, and we did that on both sides of the football and on special teams as well, so we were all really there, together, at the moment where we needed to be. That’s crucially valuable, and I’m hoping that we can carry that with us.”
LIMITING EXPLOSIVE PLAYS
One of the keys going into the must-win game with the Eagles was the limiting of explosive plays. Something the Seahawks were unable to contain during the four-game slide against the Eagles the Seahawk’s defense played good fundamental football.
“Guys did a really good job on the deep end. Our guys did a really good job on the back end and kept them underneath us. We knew it was going to be hard to get the QB, he’s so elusive, and they’re a good pass pro group also, but we needed to keep them from striking. That’s why Julian’s (Love) play was such a big play, both of his big plays were in good shape, and Mike (Jackson) was on top of an opportunity too. We did a really nice job when we had the chances, and I think we just minimized their opportunities by playing really well and disciplined on the back end.”
The one drawback to playing on Monday night for NFL team’s is a short turnaround the following Sunday. The Seahawks have less than a week to prepare for Sunday’s game with Tennessee Titans.
“We’re heading to Tennessee. A little bit of a short week. We’ve got to modify a little bit to get that done, we’re already in that. I want to do this better than we did our last short week, and so we’re determined to change a couple of little things here about it. I want the guys to really be ready to go again C because I know that Coach (Mike) Vrabel has got a style for his club that is really obvious said Carroll. “
They’re tough, they’re physical, they’re strong, they’re big. They run the heck out of the football; they believe in it. They’re really aggressive on defense, and we’ve got to get ourselves ready to go. We’ve got to have a fantastic week here to make that happen.”
JULIAN LOVE RECOGNIZED
Safety Julian Love was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his two fourth-quarter interceptions. “It’s a really good story. Just look at his last month or so, he’s just been playing great football, he’s practiced really well, he does so much stuff, he’s on (special) teams, he’s everywhere, said Carroll. “In the 49ers game, he was responsible for a couple of turnovers, and he comes back again. During the week he had a couple in practice, and he comes out in game time and makes his plays there too. He’s been a great addition and very productive here.
