Jamal Adams Passes Physical Removed From PUP List

Another Seahawks defensive star was removed from the PUP List Friday afternoon. After missing the majority of the 2022 season due to a torn quadricep tendon strong safety Jamal  Adams passed his physical and was removed from the PUP list. Just like  Jordyn Brooks who was also removed from the PUP list last week the team will take the precautionary road in making sure  Adams is ready to take the field.

“It’s a good step for him. Good stage as he’s preparing to get back. We look at these weeks and they go by quickly now. If he would continue to stay on the PUP he wouldn’t be able to get in any of our football work. So, he’ll jump into the routine like we’ve been doing with our guys like walkthroughs and things like that, so that he can start to break the huddle with the fellas, make the calls, get aligned, and make adjustments”   HC Pete Carroll said during his post practice  presser. “ Get his mind rolling in that direction and there’s one way to do it.

This is a good time for him to pop back. He’s ready to go and he’s working really hard. Again I tell you guys, if you watched him workout, you would never know there was anything wrong, but he’s still trying to make his strengths and get everything up to max. We’re going to do it perfectly. We’re going to wait it out and make sure that we really take care of him.”

It’s been a tough go for Adams who was acquired in a midseason trade with the New York Jets in 2020.  Adams recorded  9.5 sacks which set an record an NFL record for most sacks in a season by a  defensive back .  For his record-setting effort, Adams earned a Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro nominations.  Back luck found Adams in 2020 limiting his participation to just 12 games. Things went from bad to worse in 2021 when Adams suffered the quadricep injury in the season opener. After vigorous and diligent rehab, the Seahawks hope the injuries are behind Adams.

“You ask him what he says about that, but I know it makes a difference to him. I know it means something to him. He’s such an engaging personality and he’s such an outgoing personality on the football field that he has no way to express that with us,’ “said Carroll . “That’s part of the reason I want him back in there so he can get comfortable and our guys can get to know him. Some of the guys don’t know him or what he’s like. He’s going to help them. He’s a guy that makes other guys play better around him, so I just think all of this is for all the right reasons.”

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Adams some would argue is the best athlete on the team. His tenacity, physicality and energy is infectious.  When Adams is on the field things happen due to his ability to attack the ball from the line of scrimmage. Offenses have to account for him.  Julian Love has had a solid camp and looks more than capable to play the position.  He is no Adams but is disciplined in playing the run and might be better at pass coverage. Jonathan Sutherland pushed Love for reps and played 58 % of the defensive snap in the Dallas game. An undisclosed injury during practice this week has put him out of commission. Christian Young and Ty Okada saw time at strong safety during the Dallas game.  How many snaps Young and Okada get during the  Packers game will be a telling sign of the pecking order.
