MLB 2023 Home Run Derby, Unfinished Business for Mariners Julio Rodriguez

Mariners Center Fielder Julio Rodrigues is out to finish some unfinished business at T -Mobile during the MLB All-Star 2023  Home Run Derby.  Rodriguez announced via social media last week that he will participate in this year’s Home Run Derby after finishing second in last year’s event at  Dodger Stadium.

“I was so excited. I feel like it’ll be like a dream coming true,” Rodríguez said. “L.A. was cool, I enjoyed it, but being able to be at home and put on a show for the Mariners fans, I know it’ll be really exciting.

“It was a no-brainer for me. This will probably never happen again in my career, so to be able to do that for them, on the home field, it definitely will be something that I am looking forward to.”

At 22 years old and  6 months old on July 10th Rodrigues would be the youngest player to win the event. Last year’s winner Juan Soto will be 23 years old.  Soto will be one day than 1993  winner Juan  Gonzalez. While none of the other seven participants have been named fans are hopeful a repeat of last year’s hitting fest best Rodriguez and Soto.

Rodriguez is set to become the first  Mariner to participate in back-to-back seasons. The only Mariner to participate in more   Home Run Derby’s is Ken Griffey Jr. who participated in seven HR Derby’s. Griffey Jr, is the only Mariner to participate in three straight years, 1997-1999, and won back-to-back titles in 1998 and 1999.
