Former UW standout Will Dissly was named NFC Special Teams Player of The Week for his special play in the Seahawks’ 27-13 win over the New York Giants. The fifth-year pro has been one of the team’s most consistent players on offense and his week eight performance was a testament to his willingness to do anything for the team.
Against the Giants Dissly made two plays that had a dramatic impact on the game. In the second quarter, Dissly hit Giants put returner, Richie James, forcing a fumble that was recovered by Joe Blunt. The Seahawks cashed in on a Jason Myers field goal. Dilly’s other game-changing play came in the fourth quarter. After Michael Dickson 55 yard punt, Travis Homer and Joey Blount converged on James who was running upfield.
Homer knocked the ball loose from James and Dissly recovered it at the Giants ‘ yard line. The Seahawks cashed in on that turnover as well. This time it was a 16-yard TD run by rookie Kenneth Waker.
HEAD COACH PRAISE
Head coach Pete Carroll started his wednesday press conference with praise about Will Dissly’s contributions to the team on offense and special teams.
“We were happy and fired up to see that Will Dissly got recognized as the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. It was interesting that he had to jump into additional roles this week because of roster situations, and when given the opportunity, he came through in a big way. Those two plays were really huge plays in the game, and it would have been a much more difficult day without that, so that was a great recognition. It’s good to see that sometimes the starters have to jump in there and do something to come through. Will did exactly that
Seahawks hed coach Pete Carroll on Will Dissly being named Special Teams Player of the Week.
“He’s everything, he’s a total team guy. That defensive background comes out of him when he’s covering kicks, he has that old defensive tackle mentality of looking for a hit. He found one and contributed. Hopefully, our guys will always be ready. They have to be ready to step forward when the opportunity arises. That was a great illustration as you pointed out, it was great to see that.”
