Head coach Pete Carroll met with the Seattle media one last time before the team’s Sunday clash with the Arizona Cardinals.
Friday’s press conference capped off an eventful week for the Seahawks. The team said goodbye to Rashaad Penny for the season. Penny suffered a season-ending injury in the third quarter of last week’s 39-32 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Former first-round draft was re-signed to the practice squad.
Other roster moves this week saw the release of cornerback Xavier Crawford to make a roster spot. Linebacker Cullen Gillaspia was promoted to the 53-man roster for the time being.
CARROLL PRESSER NOTES
(On the status of Al Woods)
“Al (Woods) is doubtful for the game. He wasn’t able to practice yet.”
(On if Al Woods has a long-term injury)
“No because he was out running today trying to get ready.”
(On the status of Shelby Harris)
“He did fine at practice today. He made it through, so he has a chance.”
(On if Al Woods could end up being a gametime decision)
“Something could change, yeah.”
(On if Al Woods was able to go through walkthroughs this week)
“We didn’t do anything with him this week.”
(On the status of Dee Eskridge)
“He was sick early in the week. He bounced back yesterday, and had a good day yesterday and today, so he’s coming out of it. He should be all right.”
(On the status of Marquise Goodwin)
“He made it through the whole week. The last two days, he worked hard, so he’s ready to go.”
(On how Kenneth Walker III has adapted to becoming the starter with Rashaad Penny being out)
“He’s taken it in stride, nothing has changed for him. It doesn’t look like his outlook has shifted at all. He has been the lead dog for years back at school, so I don’t think this will change anything. This is what he wants, he’s looking forward to being able to do this, so he’s pumped up about it.”
(On how Bruce Irvin has looked since joining the team)
“He did quite well. I was surprised by his workout, no offense Bruce (Irvin), and then when he jumped out here with the fellas, he did a nice job. It’s really quick to try to get him back out there immediately, but he looks like he can help us.”
(On if L.J. Collier is ready to play if needed)
“Yeah, he practiced today. He got through it, so that is a really good sign that he can make it.”
(On the possibility of the game-changing times due to a possible Mariners game on Sunday)
“Yeah, again, we are just rolling with it, and we hope they win tomorrow I guess it is, and they are still playing. If it knocks us back, we are okay.”
(On what happened to Artie Burns)
“He had a little something different. It was a hip flexor that was bothering him a little bit. It was kind of flared up. We have to check him out. It happened during practice yesterday, so we got to make sure that he is okay.”
(On Tyler Lockett being on the injury report)
“Yeah, just because he was limited in practice. We were just resting him and making sure we are taking care of him and bounce him back. He had a huge game last week. We are just looking after managing him. He practiced the whole thing today.”
(On what allows Tyler Lockett to be good at catching the deep ball with his size)
Well, he is a great come-through player. He’s got great confidence and his knack for fitting to the football and taking advantage of the space and all is just remarkable, he’s gifted. He’s been the recipient of some great throws too, but a lot of guys don’t make those plays and convert them. He just comes through. It’s just like, when he made those two big catches last week, it’s like, ‘Of course he did,’ because that is what he does. He just has an amazing awareness and that is why he is such a special player. It’s hard to measure that, so maybe it doesn’t always show up in some ways that people are trying to evaluate.
But he’s got to be one of the most underrated players. He has to be. He’s just so incredibly consistent and special and it doesn’t matter who he is playing, where he is playing, what the situation is. He always comes through.”
(On Tyler Lockett’s ball tracking)
“He makes the most of the throw and he positions himself and postures with the defensive player that is there so that he can take advantage of the opportunity of the catch. What does that all mean? Well, he just knows how to fit his body exactly right whether he has to slow down at the end or he has to stretch out to make the catch; whatever he needs to do. He has all of those mechanisms in his brain to pull it off and he consistently does it in remarkable fashion.”
(On if Gabe Jackson was able to practice this week)
“No. No. He was pretty slowed down. We’ve got him doubtful and it’s never over, so we’ll see what happens on Sunday.”
(On his thoughts on Phil Haynes’ performance)
“I really have liked Phil (Haynes). I don’t think our play has dropped off at all. I think we have three starting guards and so whether it is right or left, it doesn’t matter. Phil can jump in, and he had a really good week again. He’s up for it. There is no drop off.”
