Sounders non-playoff season ends with a 2-2 draw against the Earthquakes

A brace by captain Nicolas Lodeiro gave the Seattle Sounders some solace to end the 2022 season. The Sounders were knocked out of playoff contention last week after a 1-0 loss to Sporting Kansas City. In 2022 the Sounders became the first MLS Club to win the CONCACAF Champions League. The Sounders will need to make some off-season changes if they are too return to the playoffs and make a run at another MLS Cup.

POST GAME NOTES

  • With the draw, Sounders FC concludes its 2022 regular season campaign with 41 points (12-17-5), good for 11th in the Western Conference.
  • Seattle finishes the 2022 season with a record of 16-17-10 across all competitions.
  • Lodeiro’s goal 25 seconds into the match was the second-fastest goal scored in club history, trailing only Clint Dempsey’s goal 23 seconds into a match against San Jose on March 14, 2015.

  • Today’s match marked the 36th regular-season season meeting between the two sides, with Seattle leading the series 15-12-9.
  • Stefan Cleveland started in goal for Seattle on Sunday, marking his seventh appearance of the regular season between the posts.
