In a week of transition, the Seahawks ensured one of their vital tent poles will be around for at least another three years. Sources confirmed to Cascadiasports.net that wide receiver DK Metcalf and the team have agreed on a three-year $72 million dollar contract that will keep the wideout through the 2025 season.
Metcalf was entering the final year of his rookie contract which saw him earn $3.9 million a year. The extension will earn Metcalf $24 million a year with a $30 million signing bonus and $58.2 million in guaranteed funds.
PRODUCTIVE BUT PAINFUL
Metcalf had another stellar season in 2021 with 75 receptions, 967 yards, and a career-high 12 touchdowns. While it was never made public there was an assumption that Metcalf played most of the season with an injured foot. In February Metcalf had foot surgery. Metcalf was absent during the team’s three-day minicamp in June with a medical excuse.
TRAINING CAMP SIT-IN
The Seahawk’s first day of training camp was Wednesday and Metcalf was on hand although he did not participate. After practice Head coach Pete Carroll was asked about Metcalf’s contract situation and the veteran coach side-stepped the question saying a contract extension was in the works.
“ We will give you an update when there is something to update. “
Well now there is an update and Pete Carroll is sure to update the media on Saturday. The Seahawks have a closed walk-through Friday with open practice on Saturday.
CONTRACT NUMBERS
Metcalf’s yearly salary of $24 million has him tied for six and just ahead of Washington Commanders WR Terry McLaurin who recently received an extension at $23.5 million a year. The $58.2 million guaranteed money places Metcalf just above former Ole Miss teammate A.J. Brown’s $56 million. In addition to being college teammates, the pair are represented by agent Tory Dandy.
