Sounders FC show grit and determination in a 2-1 victory over Rapids despite playing with ten men

The Sounders snapped a three-game losing streak with an emphatic 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids despite being down a man for much of the second half.

  • With tonight’s win, Sounders FC snapped its three-match losing streak, the longest slump for the Rave Green in the 2022 MLS season.
  • Tonight’s result moves Seattle up to within a point of the playoff line, one point behind seventh-place Portland. Seattle has played one less match than its Cascadia foe, with the club’s next contest coming on Friday, July 29 at league-leading LAFC.
  • Scoring just before the halftime whistle, Sounders FC forward Jordan Morris netted his team-leading sixth goal in MLS play. Across all competitions, Morris has nine goals to his name in 2022.
  • Morris’ goal was his 41st career regular-season strike.
  • Jimmy Medranda recorded his third assist of the season on Morris’ goal, giving the Colombian six career regular-season assists with the Rave Green.
  • With his penalty-kick goal in the 71st minute of play, club captain Nico Lodeiro recorded his fourth strike of 2022 and his 37th regular-season goal since joining Sounders FC in mid-2016.
  • Lodeiro is now a perfect 17 for 17 from penalty spot in MLS regular-season play. 
  • With his assist on Morris’ goal, Lodeiro has six helpers in MLS play this season, leading the team. It marks his 79th assist in all competitions for the Rave Green, 29 more than any other player.
  • Saturday’s game was the 32nd meeting between these two sides, with Seattle now leading 20-8-4, including a 13-2-1 mark at home.
