Sounders FC move up the standings with another win

It was not pretty and the Sounders certainly made things more difficult than they needed to be. What the Sounder’s second consecutive win showed is that the team is back to its winning ways. The Sounders ( 4-5-1, 13 points) defeated Houston Dynamo FC (4-5-3, 15 points) 1-0 on Wednesday evening at PNC and now sit 11th in the Western Conference.

Striker Raúl Ruidíaz put Seattle on the board in the 28th minute with his second MLS strike of the season and fifth across all competitions in 2022. In an impressive team goal, Jordan Morris found himself near the touchline on the left side of the 18-yard-box, where he crossed to Alex Roldan on the other side of the area for a bang-bang pass to Ruidíaz, who redirected the ball into the net.

GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY

The Sounders were handed a gift in the 54th minute when Dynamo’s Adalberto Carrasquillas was issued a second yellow card resulting in a red card. The Sounders were unable to take advantage of the extra player on the field. The missed opportunity was squandered in the 82-minute when Alex Roldan received a second yellow card. The two sides finished the game playing ten on ten.

A WIN IS A WIN

During his post-game press conference with the media head coach Brian Schmetzer made it a point to say that the team and coaching staff were pleased with their consecutive win and the clean sheet.

Sounders FC goalkeeper Stefan Frei recorded his 87th career shutout, moving above Joe Cannon for third all-time. Only Nick Rimando (154) and Kevin Hartman (112) have more shutouts in league history.
