The Seattle Seahawks got more good news after Sunday’s emphatic win over the Detroit Lions when head coach Pete Carroll announced during his weekly press conference that linebacker Bobby Wagner suffered a knee sprain and nothing else.
“He does not have major damage at all,” Carroll said. “He has a sprained kind of kneecap that he’s going to have to recover from, and that will all be about the swelling. He does have a little bit of swelling; I was with him this morning and he’s sore and hobbled a little bit, but it’s not a serious injury. As we look at things, it’s not a surgery-required type of injury, and it’ll take him a bit to get back.”
Wagner suffered the injury on Lion’s first play from scrimmage. A time out was called to attend to Wagner’s injury and when it was over Wagner stepped back on the field but was told he had to sit out a play since the time out was called to attend to his injury. Wagner never returned to the game and spend the rest of the game in the Seahawks locker room.
To hear that Wagner suffered no major damage to the knee is incredible news to him and the organization, given the replays of the injury. Replays showed Wagner doing the splits while being pushed by an offensive lineman. Wagner’s status for Sunday’s season finale at Arizona is uncertain.
CODY BARTON ADEQUATE FILL IN
Third-year linebacker Cody Barton filled in for Wagner and did a good job of filling in according to Carroll.
“He had a couple of really good plays, he misread a couple of things, he might have had a chance to help us out over the middle, but all in all, he was good. He has always shown us to have really good instincts in the passing game, he is a playmaker, he can steal the football from you, and all of that. It’s a strength of his.”
