Kalen DeBoer Picks Ryan Grubb To Lead Huskies Offense In 2022 Season

After accepting the monumental task of restoring the Washington Football program to Pac-12 dominance, Husky head coach Kalen DeBoer looked to trusted friend  Ryan Grubb.

DeBoer announced Grubb as the Huskies’ next offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach via an athletic department press release.

“I’m excited to welcome Ryan, Stephanie and Falynn to our football program,” said DeBoer. “In our time working together, Ryan has consistently produced highly effective offenses and, through his leadership, has excelled in developing young players. I know he’ll continue to do that here at UW, working with our quarterbacks and as the leader of our offense.”

Grubb spent the last two seasons at Fresno State with DeBoer as offensive coordinator,  assistant head coach, and quarterback’s coach.

LONG TIME AIDE

Grubb has been at DeBoer’s side for over ten years in various support roles.  He joined DeBoer at Fresno State ahead of the 2017 season, as offensive line coach and run game coordinator, when DeBoer arrived as offensive coordinator. Prior to that, he was offensive line coach at Eastern Michigan during DeBoer’s three seasons (2014-16) as offensive coordinator.

This past season, Grubb helped lead Fresno State to a 9-3 overall record. As of the end of the regular season, the Bulldogs ranked No. 1 in the Mountain West Conference in total offense (463.6 yards per game) and second in scoring offense (33.6 points per game) and passing offense (330.1 yards per game). In 2020, Fresno State also led the conference with 479.3 yards of total offense per game.

“I want to thank Coach DeBoer and Jen Cohen for the opportunity to lead the Huskies’ offense,” Grubb said. “I feel strongly that this can be one of the best offenses in the Pac-12. I’m looking forward to getting to know our players and this community and getting to work for this historic and successful program.”

A former running back and wide receiver at Buena Vista University (Storm Lake, Iowa), Grubb first worked with DeBoer at the University of Sioux Falls from 2007-09. He was offensive line coach and run game coordinator those three seasons, when DeBoer, as head coach at his alma mater, led the Cougars to two NAIA national championships, a runner-up finish, and a 42-1 record in those three years. He continued on as USF offensive coordinator for four years (2010-13).
