Russell Wilson Set To Lead Seahawks Into Critical Clash With Packers

After missing three games due to a mallet finger injury  Seahawks offensive captain is ready to don the Superman cape and lead the Seahawks into yup the frozen tundra that is Lambeau Field. Home of the Green Bay Packers and a hostile environment, the Seahawks have not tasted victory since  November 1st, 1999.

The return of Wilson from the injury is nothing short of a miracle. Wilson returned from the injury in half of the time the average person would take to return. The question before Wilson and the Seahawks is, can he complete his miraculous return with a clutch win in Green Bay? A win in Green Bay would put the Seahawks front and center in the battle for an NFC Wild Card postseason berth. As previously mentioned Lambeau Field has not been a welcoming place for the Seahawks.

WILSON AND THE ELEMENTS

The biggest question regarding Wilson’s return is how the finger will hold up in game-like conditions and the torrid weather of Lambeau Field.  The forecast is for temperatures in the low 20 through the game. The field itself will be warmer than freezing thanks to heated coils running underground. This should minimize any cold concerns regarding Wilson’s finger. Now if it gets hit that’s another story.

SPEAKING OF QUARTERBACKS

Sunday’s game is sure to see the return of Aaron Rodgers after testing positive for COVID-19 on November 3rd and forcing him to miss the Packers game against the Kansas City Chiefs.  A bruhaha followed Rodgers once it was revealed that he was one of the few unvaccinated players in the league. Earlier in the season, Rodgers was coy and vague when asked if he was immunized.  Many felt Rodgers lied about his vaccination status. Rodgers should play on Sunday against the Seahawks. A mad Aaron Rodgers is not a good proposition for any defense.

HOW WILL  IT GO DOWN?

If we take the case that the Seahawks defense did regress during the bye week the Hawks have a chance of winning the game if they can keep the game close. The Packers offense is ranked  22nd overall slightly ahead of the Seahawks offense which is ranked 29th. The Packers are averaging 109.7 rushing yards per game (18th) and  223.8 passing yards per game which is 22nd overall. If the Seahawks can get some pressure from Poona Ford, Bryan Mone,  Kerry Hyder Jr, and  Al Woods linebackers Bobby Wagner, Jordy Brooks, and Benson Mayoma could have success stopping the run and containing Rodgers.

PRESSURE UPFRONT

A healthy pass rush will be needed to contain Rodgers who if given time can easily pick the Seahawks secondary apart with his partner in crime Davante Adams. The four-time Pro Bowler has already caught 58 passes for 786 yards and three touchdowns this season.

In his past four games against the Seahawks Adams has recorded three 100 yards games. The last time the two teams played in 2018 Adam 10 receptions, 160 yards receiving yards, and two touchdowns. While Adams will be matched up against D.J. Reed or Tre Brown the play of free safety Quandre Diggs will be the determining factor. If the secondary is able to mix and match coverages with a healthy pass rush the Seahawks could walk away with an upset given, they are three-point underdogs.
