Husky linebacker Carson Bruener was named this week’s Nextall Pac- 12 Defensive player and Freshman player of the week. Placekicker Peyton Henry was honored for his four-field goal effort in the same game as this week’s Special Teams Player of the Week. The two were instrumental in the Huskies keeping their North Division title race hopes.
PROMISING FUTURE
Bruener led a staunch defensive effort by the Huskies with 11 solo tackles 5 combined tackles, one sack, and a pivotal forced fumble in the fourth quarter.
The former Redmond Mustang a Seattle Times All-State Selection in 2019. In 2020 Bruener saw no game action, but his promising career began to take shape this season. Bruener saw his first action in the Montana game, recorded eight tackles and forced a fumble in the Huskies win over Arkansas State, and recorded seven tackles against Arizona before his breakout performance against Stanford.
MODEL OF CONSISTENCY
Henry has been a model of consistency since he became the Huskies’ placekicker in 2018 when he played in all 14 games making 16 of 22 field-goal attempts. In 2019 Henry earned second-team All-Pac12 as well as a spot on the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll when he made six of nine field goals. In 2020 Henry made all six of his field goals attempts.
Against Stanford Henry tied a career-high four field goals connecting from 24, 37,35, 32, he has made 9 of 11 field goals this season
Henry is the first Washington player to win the award since 2017 when Dante Pettis won it three times. The first time a UW kicker has claimed this honor since P/K Travis Coons in October 2013.
