Raul Rudiaz came off the bench and scored within 20 seconds to give the Sounders a 1-0 win over the FC Dallas Wednesday night in Frisco Texas. With his team playing the second of the three road games in six days Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer rotated his lineup. Will Bruin started up front and recently acquired midfielder Nicolas Benezet earned his first start for the Rave Green. Joining Ruidiaz on the bench to start the game were all-stars Nicolas Lodeiro, Joao Paulo, Yeirmar Gomez, and Alex Roldan.
DEPTH AND STRENGTH OF TEAM
Wednesday night victory showed the depth, strength, and brilliance of head coach Brian Schmetzer. The Sounders showed no hangover from Sunday’s emotional 6-2 Derby win at Portland. In fact, the Sounders were more focused on getting revenge for the 1-1 draw suffered at Lumen Field two weeks. In that contest, the Sounders gave up a stoppage-time goal after Freddy Montero’s go-ahead goal in the 72nd minute.
COMPACT AND STURDY
On Wednesday night the Seahawks were determined not to repeat their past mistakes. Like two weeks ago the Sounder’s defense wobbled a bit late in the game with Nkosi Burgess, Ryan Hollingshead, and Bryan Acosta all getting good looks at the Sounders goal but to no avail. After away matches in Portland and Dallas over the past four days, Seattle concludes its three-game road swing in Columbus on Saturday, August 21 against the Crew.
A rematch of the 2020 MLS Cup, the contest is being carried nationally on network FOX, and regionally via Sports Radio 950 KJR AM and El Rey 1360 AM. Following that contest, Los Angeles hosts the 2021 MLS All-Star Game against the best of Liga MX. Sounders FC saw a club-record six All-Stars selected this season.
