Seahawks offense sputters in 20-7 preseason loss to Las Vegas Raiders.

Saturday’s night 20-7 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders had everything you might expect in a preseason game that saw both sides give their starters a night off. A make-shift offensive line of right guard Phil Haynes left guard Jordan Simmons left tackle Stone Forsythe right tackle Jake Curhan and Center Kyle Fuller started in the trenches for the Seahawks.

The Seahawk’s offense got off to a bad start and things got worse from there.  The Raiders took the opening kickoff and marched 83 yards on 14 plays and grabbed the 7-0 lead on a one-yard run by  Trey Ragas. The disaster for the Seahawks came in their first offensive possession. Raiders cornerback Nate Hobbs blitzed from the safety position and cold caulked Geno Smith for the sack.  Smith at out one play returned played a series and left the game due to concussion symptoms.

“ Geno got knocked around pretty bad and it’s something we should have picked up,” head coach Pete Carroll said after the game. Carroll was unable to provide any updates on Smith.

Alex McGough took over at quarterback the Seahawk’s offensive woes continued. The Seahawks finished the first with just 44 total yards. Two of those were on the ground. On the other hand, the Raider’s offense had its way with the Seahawk’s defense amassing 290 total yards and jumped out to a 13-0 halftime lead.

The lone bright spot for the Seahawks was the play of Alton Robinson who had three first-half tackles. His constant pressure caused an interception by Ryan Neal in the second quarter. It was the Seahawk’s lone bright spot in the first half.

A FEW BRIGHT SPOTS

McGough found his footing and got the Seahawks on the board when his 43-yard swing pass to DeeJay Dallas on 4th and 4 resulted in a touchdown. It was the Seahawk’s lone score of the game.  Kicker Jason Myers missed a 50-yard field goal in the second. A rare site for Hawk fans.   Myers made all of his 24 field goal attempts last season. Linebackers Cody Barton and Ben Burr-Kirven had outstanding games with Barton recording two sacks. Burr-Kirven finished with a team-high 12 sacks.
