- Dallas answered with a 14-4 run to finish regulation time, tying it at 96-96. The Wings thought they had a 97-96 lead when Satou Sabally buried a shot from the top of the key with 6.9 seconds left that was initially called a 3-pointer. But the officials reviewed it and ruled called it a 2, leaving the score at 96-96.
KEY STATS OF THE GAME
- Seattle went was 23-of-29 in the game from the free throw line while Dallas went 5-of-12.
- Dallas out-rebounded Seattle 44-40 including a 14-5 edge on the offensive glass. That led to the Wings taking 24 more shots in the game and holding a 20-9 advantage in second-chance points.
- Seattle, which leads the league in fast-break points at 16.8 per game, racked up 30. Dallas came in as the No. 2 team in fast-break points at 11.8 per game and finished with 20.
- The Storm shot 50% from the field for just the second time this season, hitting 36-of-72, including 4-of-5 in overtime. The Wings were just 3-of-10 in the extra session, but still hit 44.8% for the game.
- Seattle, the WNBA’s top passing team, dished a league-high 31 assists, with 10 for Sue Bird. The previous high this season was 29 by Connecticut against Indiana.
STORM HIGHLIGHTS
- Seattle is now 3-0 in overtime games, with two of those against Dallas.
- The Storm have won six in a row overall and 10-straight against the Wings.
- The 21 points scored by Stephanie Talbot was not only a season-high, but also her best performance since scoring a career-high 24 against the Atlanta Dream on July 2, 2019 while she was with Minnesota.
- Mercedes Russell had a season-high 12 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
- The Storm shot 20-of-24 at the free throw line in the first half alone, including 12-of-15 in the second quarter, as the Wings were called for 15 fouls through the first 20 minutes.
- The 57 first-half points tied for Seattle’s second-highest scoring half of the season, matching the 57 scored in the second half of a 90-78 win at Minnesota on May 20. The highest was 58 against the Lynx on May 28 in Everett.
- Seattle has now scored 100 or more points in three-straight games against Dallas (107-95, 9/6/2020 and 100-97 OT, 5/22/2021)
- Friday’s game counted toward the Commissioner’s Cup. The Storm is now 5-0 in Cup games.
- The Storm is 7-1 for the third time in franchise history, having also done so in 2010 (on the way to a 9-1 start) and in 2020 (on the way to 11-1). Both previous seasons, Seattle went on to win the WNBA Championship.
WINGS HIGHLIGHTS
- Marina Mabrey hit 10-of-17 from the field on her way to 24 points. Arike Ogunbowale poured in 22 points.
- The Wings were 9-of-18 from beyond the arc in the first half, but connected on just 2-of-10 in the second half and OT.
- Satou Sabally scored 18 points in her first game of the season, adding nine rebounds.
