5. Welcome back Mitch Haniger
Thursday’s game with the Colorado Rockies turned out to be a slug-fest, with 26 hits resulting in a 9-9 tie. The third inning proved to be the highlight for the M’s and their fans as they scored five of their nine runs, including back-to-back-to-back home runs.
The trio of long balls came courtesy of Mitch Haniger, Kyle Seager and Ty France. It was a spectacular display of offense, with little doubt about which homer meant the most.
Since earning his first All-Star selection in 2018, Hainger has endured a tough time with injuries and various surgeries. He was limited to 63 games in 2019 and sat out all of last season, but now appears to be returning to full fitness.
The 30-year old’s moon shot against the Rockies represented his first home run since June 4 in 2019. He looks strong and if he can remain healthy, he will prove to be invaluable as the leader of a young Seattle Mariners roster hoping to take the next step towards becoming contenders for years to come.
