Five things we heard from Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron

The Seahawk’s new offense coordinator  Shane Waldron gave his first press conference with local media Tuesday afternoon. After spending the last three years as the Los Angeles Rams passing game coordinator, Waldron decided it was time to move on up.  Waldron is from the Portland area with seven years of NFL coaching experience.

WHO REACHED OUT TO WHO REGARDING JOB VACANCY

According to Waldron, the Seahawks reached out to him regarding the vacant offensive coordinator position. While familiar with  Pete Carroll Waldron never kept contact with Carroll.  From 2005-07 Waldron was a graduate assistant at Notre Dame when Carroll was the head coach at USC.

After the Seahawks reached to him Waldron accepted the invite to interview for the  job

OFFENSIVE PHILOSOPHY

The Seahawks postseason postmortem revealed an intent to have an effective run game to complement a  highly effective pass game.

READY FOR THE CHALLENGE

Calling plays in a regular-season game will be a new challenge for Waldron. Waldron’s first job with the Rams was the team’s tight ends coach. Going from an assistant coach to the offensive coordinator is a challenge  Waldron feels he is ready for.

CHUNK PLAYS IN RUN GAME CHANGE GAMES

Last season the Seahawks had 41 run plays that went for 12 yards or more.  26 of the 41  plays resulted in touchdowns. Seven resulted in punts.  If the Seahawks are to be effective they will need to have an abundance of chuck run plays.

NUMEROUS DISCUSSIONS  WITH RUSSELL WILSON

Waldron has spent a lot of time getting to know quarterback Russell Wilson. A relationship that will be pivotal if the seahawks are to have continued success on offense.
