Seahawks Bruce Irvin and Marquise Blair out for the season due to ACL injuries.

The Seahawks’ worst fears were confirmed Monday . During his weekly with the media head coach Pete Carroll announced that Strongside linebacker Bruce Irvin and cornerback were lost for the season due to ACL injuries suffered in the  Seahawks 35-30 win over the New England Patriots.

Both players had been making significant defensive contributions.  Irvin started the team’s first two games recording two solo tackles in both games and recording a quarterback hit in both games. Blair was the 5th defensive back in the Seahawks nickel package recording four solo tackles in the Atlanta game and one on Sunday night before his injury.  Blair had a forced fumble against the  Falcons.

Second-year player and former Oregon player Ugo Amadi stepped in for Blair and did a good job of filling in for Blair.  Amadi finished last night’s game with eighth solo tackles one of which was for a loss.  Blair and Amadi battled all last season for the starting nickel spot until Blair pulled away in late in the season.

Rookie Jordyn Brooks and second-year man Cody Barton look to be the likeliest replacements for Irvin. Brooks has seen limited time at weakside linebacker backing up KJ Wright. In the last two games, Brooks has participated in 24 total snaps. Eleven against the Falcons, and 12 against the Patriots. Barton saw significant game time at Strongside linebacker when he started two games in 2019 for an injured Mychal Kendricks.

This year Barton has participated in 19 snaps in the Seahawks first two games.  Another player to add to the mix is Shaquem Griffin who was listed as  Irvin’s backup before being placed on the practice before the start of the season. Griffin can be called up at any time.
