The Seattle Mariners continued their countdown towards next Friday’s season opener at Houston with another intrasquad game Saturday night. Saturday night’s game marked the return of Mallex Smith and another strong effort from Marco Gonzales. The Mariners designated ace threw 49 pitches in four innings giving up six hits, no walks, and striking out three batters.
Smith missed all of Spring Training in 2019 with a strained right elbow that hampered him for most of the season. The result was 116 hits with a 227 hitting percentage. Once on base Smith was masterful at stealing bases. He led the American League with 46. Saturdays intrasquad game was the first time Smith face live pitching since the shut down of Spring Training last March
