L.J. COLLIER FOCUSED ON HAVING A BREAKOUT SECOND YEAR

A rookie year that was derailed by a rare ankle  injury has  Seahawks defensive line man L.J. Collier focused and determined  to show what he can do. The 6-3 291 Collier was a first round ( 29th overall )  pick in the 2018 draft.  When the Seahawks traded Frank Clark to Kansas City Collier’s future with team looked bright. A preseason injury turned the former  TCU standouts career into  utter despair

Collier spent the rest of his rookie season trying to get back on the field. The result was a disappointing 3 tackles in 152 snaps over 11games. Thursday morning Collier spent time with local media on video conference call. Here are the highlights from  that conversation .

WHERE HE IS SPENDING HIS OFF SEASON

I am in Texas right now in my house in Frisco and fortunate enough to train. I do miss not training with my teammates and being with those guys, but circumstances have dictated that.

“ I have been boxing, cardio workouts  and flexibility, just anything that can help me with my game.”

LIFE IN FRISCO

“It’s pretty much open down here in Texas. Walmart  is open people can go shop at stores and sit down at restaurants  at low capacity. I haven’t gone out much because I am trying to keep my routine  working out staying in the house and working with my position coach. I am ready and I know what I have to do to be the best I can.”

WHAT HE LEARNED FROM HIS  ROOKIE SEASON

‘The injury took me out for 6 month it was hard, I just did what I could do, pay attention in meetings. It was difficulty but I learned a lot about myself and the league and just what I can bring to the league. As a result, I have been watching a lot. The name of this game is repetition.

I really was not 100% healthy last year but I wanted to get back on the field and contribute. I got to a place where I could contribute. I do not regret anything from last year. I learned a lot I know what kind of a competitor I am and ready to compete and help the team.”

MOVING FORWARD

“ I am excited about knowing the playbook and what we can do this year. “ I am chopping at the bit to get out. I felt disrespected and ready to show people what I can do. I am out to prove that I am one hell of a football player, I can stop the run, I can stop the pass. I don’t care about the first round draft pick stuff.”

“ Last year was last year and I am focusing on this year. At the end of the day it’s time to eat. I am ready to show what I can do play ball and help the team anyway  I can.”

ANY PREFERENCE TO WHERE HE PLAYS ON THE DEFENSIVE LINE

“I knew coming in last year that I was going to play some three technique in the nickel situation.

Coach Clit Hurt told me before the draft that I was going to play some inside and outside. I am really excited about it; I am an athlete guy I know what I can bring so I am ready to do whatever I can go get on the field and help the team.”

MINNEAPOLIS RIOTS

“ It upsetting to see what people are going through and what they have to resort to  just to be heard to be seen. Just for someone to killed so people can see what it’s  like to be black, just the fear that we go through every day.  Like being pulled over and not knowing what’s going to happen,  nobody wants to go through. The rioting just so people can be heard, no one wants to go through that. It’s a sad thing . I hope this will open doors so people can see how the black people are getting oppressed”
