Jordan Morris brace salvages 2-1 home-opening win for Sounders FC

Sounders FC forward Jordan Morris came off the bench and scored two second-half goals to propel the Seattle Sounders to a 2-1 MLS season-opening win over the Chicago Fire. The Sounders were trying to shake off a disappointing CONCACAF Champions League Penalty Shoot loss to Olimpia Thursday that knocked them out of the tournament. The loss was devastating for a team that had set its goal on becoming the first MLS team to win the CONCACAF Champions League tournament.

TRAP GAME

Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer talked during the week how Sunday’s home opener was potential a trap game for a team on the heel of the heartbreaking loss and playing in front of Rave Green Nation for the first time since winning the MLS Cup in 2019.

AFTER SLUGGISH START SOUNDERS PREVAIL

After all unveiling of a second MLS Banner, Sounders FC took the field in game one of their 2020 title defense without Nicolas Lodeiro ( Right hamstring/tendinitis) Gustav Svensson ( Left calf strain) and Wil Bruin who is still recovering from a right ACL tear. As expected the Sounders play was disjointed in possession, sloppy on the offensive end and lackluster on defense. After the goalless first half, the visiting Fire took a 1-0 lead one minute into the second half. It was then than Morris donned his Superman cape and took matters into his own hands.
