The Seattle Sounders hit the StarFire Sports training ground Wednesday afternoon as they began preparations for Sunday’s MLS Cup Title against old familiar friend Toronto FC. Sundays game will be the rubber match for the two squads who faced each other in the 2016 and 2017 title game. Both games where in Toronto with Seattle winning in 2016.
While the whole revenge factor theory makes for good or bad journalism context is everything here. And If it is true that time heals all wounds or in this case let bygones be bygones and leave the past in the past. The reality is that both teams will want to win Sundays game because the winner gets to hoist the 2091 MLS Trophy not because it will be pay back for a loss in a previous Final.
Both teams have some pep to their step going into Sunday’s game as a result of winning their respective Conference Championship Game. Both teams were underdogs going into the Conference Championship games. Home side Atlanta United was a heavy favorite against Toronto FC as was LAFC against the visiting Seattle Sounders.
Both visiting clubs prevailed setting up what will be a tough defensive battle between two disciplined teams who will be looking to pack the middle of the pitch on defense then quickly counter.
Sundays game will not doubt be a emotional affair for both teams. The Sounders will have the backing of 69,000 plus fans while Toronto FC will look to play rude guests one more time on Major League Soccer’s biggest stage. If the Sounders are to hoist the 2019 MLS trophy they will need Captain Nicolas Lodeiro to continue his stella play.
TEAM DEFENSE WILL BE KEY
Sounders defender Brad Smith the Sounder believes his team can with the game if they produce another solid defensive effort similar to the one they played in produced in the LAFC game.
