UW quarterback Jake Haener leaves team after being named backup

On Friday morning Husky head coach Chris Petersen announced Jacob Eason the winner of the startingquarterback battle between Eason and sophomore Jake Haener. During fridays press conferece Petersen said that Haener would get meaningful playing time behind Eason during the Huskies season opening game against Eastern Washington. Petersen also mentioned that the decision was based on gut instinct giving one the impression that it was a close battle that could have gone either way.

Twenty fours after the announcement the Universty of Washington Athletic Department released a brief statement regarding Haener’s departure.

Statement on behalf of the UW football program:

Sophomore quarterback Jake Haener has elected to leave the Washington football program, effective immediately.

CONSTANT IMPROVMENT

COMMUNICATION BREAKDOWN

There is no doubt Petersen’s message of self improvement for one and the team did not resonate with Heaner. Given there was little information from the teams press release, speculation is all there is to go by. All we do know is that Heaner is the one who elected to move on. As with all things time will tell and the truth will surface. Petersen is scheduled to meet with the media on Monday for his weekly press conference .
