The business side of the NFL: Seahawks terminate Kam Chancellor and Doug Baldwin contracts

The business side of football reared it’s head on Thursday afternoon and reminded all interested parties that the NFL is about business. There is the nostalgic side of all it which is small comfort for the fans who tend to drift down memory lane but at the end of the day the organization and players have to make the decision that is best for them.

Thursday afternoon the Seahawks announced the termination of  Kam Chancellor and Doug Baldwin due to failed physicals.  The announcement was a surprise but hardly a shock. For both players, it was a matter of when not if. Chancellor suffered a career-ending neck injury in 2017 and was kept on the roster for salary cap purposes. Balwin’s return to the field this year was always going to be a long shot due to multiple injuries suffered in 2018  which necessitated injuries this offseason.  Both Chancellor and Baldwin were part of a group of players that transformed the team’s culture on and off the field and their tenacity and drive on the field finally took its tall.
