The Portland Timbers and Sporting Kansas City played to a goalless draw Sunday afternoon at Providence Park. Leg two will be Thursday, Nov 29th at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City with a scheduled kick off time of 6:30 p.m. PST.
Portland nearly took the lead in the sixth minute when Jorge Villafana unleashed a right footed shot that bounced off the post. The Timbers dominated the choppy first half that saw a lot of hard fouls. Sporting KC’s Daniel Salloi looked to have given the visitors the coveted away goal in the 58th minute when he hit an exquisite left-footed strike only to see it blocked by Timber defenders Liam Ridgewell and Zarek Valentin
Portlands last and best chance of the second half came in the 82nd minute when Bill Tuiloma connected on a Diego Valeri corner kick and headed the ball towards the Sporting KC into the top right corner of the net until Sporting KC goalkeeper Tim Melia intervened. The game eventually ended in a scoreless draw.
