Banged up Seahawks could face Rams without key starters

The Seattle Seahawks final injury report on Friday afternoon was one
maybe two players short of a mash unit. The point is there were a lot of names listed as questionable for the teams Sunday afternoon game (1:25 PT) with the Los Angeles Rams at the LA Coliseum. Seven players were listed as questionable for Sunday’s game with five of the seven being starters.

Listed as questionable for Sunday’s game were Safety Bradley McDougal ( knee),  DT Shamar Stephen( foot), LB K.J Wright (knee), DT Nazair Jones ( illness), RB Chris Carson (hip), G D.J. Fluker (calf) and  G Jordan Simmons ( calf ).

Given the Seahawks were on the losing end of game one with the Rams October 7th at CenturyLink with a healthy team. The prospect of facing an angry Rams who is coming off a deflating 45-35 loss to the Rams that knocked them off the unbeaten perch is not a good look for a Seahawks who is trying to regain it winning swagger after 25 to 17 home loss to the LA Chargers. Time will be a major factor in that this will be a short week for the Seahawks due to the fact that they will host the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night four days after the Rams game.

Here is what head coach Pete Carroll had to say about the injury situatin regarding his starters.

(On Bradley McDougald’s status)
“He worked today so we’ll see how he comes out of that and I’m sure he’s questionable on the chart right now. We’ll figure it out. Those will go to game day.”

(On Chris Carson’s status)
“He is. He is a little bit better, yeah, but I have nothing to report to you yet.”

(On If Chris Carson will be a game-time decision)
“Yes.”

(On D.J. Fluker’s status)
“Fluke is going to game day too, for us. We’ve got to hold him out the whole time and see how he does when we work him out at the stadium.”

(On K.J. Wright’s status)
“He worked today. He did a good job today. Looks good.”

(On if K.J. Wright is a game-time decision)
“We’re just going to make sure – any of the guys who are coming back this late, we’ve got to make sure that the work that they did today doesn’t set them back so in essence, we’re waiting until game day but he looked pretty good and got enough done. It looks like he’s going to be ready to go.”

(On who will play at right guard if D.J. Fluker isn’t able to play)
“We have to wait and see.”

(On Shamar Stephen) “He was getting treatment all week out of the area – special treatments. All the reports from Shamar are that he feels great and we’ll have to wait and see again – that will go all (the way) to game day because we haven’t seen him. He knows his body and he’s reporting pretty strongly that he’s going to be okay.”

(On how Delano Hill practiced this week) “He had a good week. These are two really good weeks. I mentioned it to you at the end of last week too that he had really stepped up into the preparation to get a lot of work. Just missed a few reps too when Bradley (McDougald) was getting turns today, but he did a really good job and he’s ready to play. We’ll be fine if he plays.”

(On if Mike Davis is ready to fill-in for Chris Carson if needed)
“Mike is ready. He has been a guy that has just been on the ready whenever we call on him. He’s got a great attitude about it. If that was the case, (we have) C.J. (Prosise) there as well to complement with Rashaad (Penny). We have a good group. We have some depth there that we feel comfortable with, but Mike in particular did a very nice job again this week. He’s ready to roll.”

PETE ON THE CALIFORNIA FIRES

“Before we get started, there’s a lot going on down in Southern California and a lot of hardships and a lot of difficulties and I know that even today, stuff started all up again down there. We just want to extend our awareness of that and concern and hope everybody’s doing okay. I know that there are a lot of challenges and there is nothing we can do about it up here but we certainly do see that it’s going on and want to just make sure we send our regards and hope people can make it through it and find their best way through it. It’s tough times.”

(On the upcoming game against the Rams)

“We’ve had an excellent preparation getting ready for this game. This is a really good team we’re playing. We understand that we have to play really good ball to be in the challenge of this so we worked accordingly. I’m excited about the opportunity to go. We haven’t played these guys too long ago so they know us, we know them and we’ll see how this goes but we’re looking forward to this challenge.”
