Christian Faith Basketball season gets under way

The  Christian Faith Basketball Club’s season is underway. Christian Faith Basketball Club was founded in 2015 by Zach Gill.  What started as an Intramural Sports team @Edmonds Community College has since vastly grown into an organization with an elite men’s and women’s basketball program.

The men’s basketball team has a record   2-3 on the season after a brutal road trip in which the team won just one of three games. Two of the three games went into overtime.

Dominique Johnson scored 27 points and pulled down 11 rebounds and  Webster Morelands’ near triple-double of 25 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists was not enough as  Christian Faith started the road trip with an overtime 100 to 103 loss to Olympic College.

The team regrouped  and pulled out a  92-88 OT win over  Tacoma Community College in the second game as  Kelly Edwards poured in a game-high 52 points  while  Darius Hollinshed pulled  down 17 rebounds and scored 12 points to even the road record to 1-1

In the third game, Kiante Woods scored 32 points and David Grant recorded a double-double by scoring  15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds but the herculean effort was not enough as Christian Faith was defeated by Whatcom Community College 67 to 77.

WOMEN STAY UNDEFEATED

The Women’s team fared much better than the men as they won all four road games to remain at 4-0 for the season. Ryli Erickson scored a team-high 21 points while Darnellia Russell recorded a  double-double with 17 points and 10 assist as the  Christian Faith  Womens team down Shoreline Community 85 to 73.

Gabby Wade’s 21 point and 10 rebounds were the difference in the second game as Christian Faith easily defeated Tacoma Community College 72  to 51. Wade continued her dominance in the teams 78-67 win over  Whatcom Community College by scoring 18 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.

Unlike the Tacoma game, Wade received some help from  Russell who just missed a triple-double by scoring 31 points, pulling down seven rebounds and dishing out seven assists. Russell was the difference maker in the teams fourth game as she scored a team-high scored  14 points in a hard fought victory over  Everett Community College.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

The upcoming schedule for CF is highlighted by the men playing at Edmonds Community College, and the women playing at Shoreline Community College.  There are many reasons to get excited about this Thursday nights matchup @Edmonds between the CF men and the Tritons.

Christian Faith Basketball originally started as an intramural sports team at Edmonds Community College before it became a nonprofit Basketball club. Christian Faith  Founder Zach Gill is also an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach for Edmonds CC. A third of CF’s roster has played for coach Kyle Gray either at Seattle CC or Edmonds.

“The Edmonds players and coaches have been giving me a hard time all week at practice about this matchup.  They can’t wait to play us, and we’re just as eager to play against them!  The atmosphere in the gym is going to feel like a win or go home Game 7 despite it being just an exhibition scrimmage, said Gill.

CF women’s starting PG, Darnellia Russell, is a former Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Shoreline Community College.  This Friday night will be noted as ‘the return of Darnellia Russell part 2’ as the CF and Shoreline women’s teams play again in a rematch.
