LAFC defeat Fresno State 2-0 advance in U.S Open Cup play.

The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) earned a convincing 2-0 victory over USL side, Fresno FC, in the first-ever Lamar Hunt U.S Open Cup contest at Banc of California Stadium. Second-half goals from forwards Diego Rossi and Latif Blessing were the difference on Wednesday night as the Black & Gold advanced to the Round of 16 of the tournament.

As a result of  Wednesday’s win LAFC will host Sacramento Republic FC onWednesday, June 20 in the Round of 16 of the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Kickoff time at Banc of California Stadium and ticket information will be announced at a later date.

The U.S. Open Cup clash will mark the second meeting between LAFC and Sacramento in 2018 after the two sides met on February 25 for a preseason match – a 1-0 win for the Black & Gold.

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the oldest soccer competition in the United States, is an annual tournament open to all United States Soccer Federation (USSF) amateur and professional affiliated soccer teams. This year, 94 teams participated, including all 20 U.S.-based Major League Soccer clubs.

LAFC (6-4-3; 21 points) returns to league action this Saturday, June 9 as they travel to San Jose to take on the Earthquakes at Avaya Stadium (7:30 p.m. PT; YouTube TV, UniMás 46) in the final regular season contest before the FIFA World Cup break.
