Excuse Seahawks nation if they flash on you if you play Bob Marley’s Exodus reggae song. The whole ” Movement of the Jah people, oh-oh, yeah! When ya see Jah light ( Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha)” is no laughing matter for a fan base that has seen one of the most feared defenses in NFL history significantly decimated by injuries and free agency.
A fan base that was dormant came alive in 2011 when the Legion Boom was created. Head coach Jim Mora was fired on January 9th and for USC Trojans head coach Pete Carroll was hired to replace Mora.
Before the 2011 season, the Seahawks drafted cornerback Richard Sherman in the 5th round of the 2011 draft, signed cornerback Brandon Browner as a free agent from the CFL’s Calgary Stampeders adding to 2010 draftees Strong safety Kam Chancellor and free safety Earl Thomas.
The team missed the playoffs in Carroll first year and the only other time the Seahawks missed the playoffs was last year.
The last year that Kam Chancellor, Earl Thomas, and Richard Sherman would play together. Browner, Jeremy Lane, Brady McDougald and Shaquille Griffin became part of the Seahawks feared defensive backfield corps and the future looked bright.
Injuries to Kam Chancellor, Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas reminded the injured players, front office and fans that nothing last forever. Yes,” it’s hard to say good-by “, as the old Boys to Men song says.
How the Seahawks and Seahawk nation got here is easy to deduce. What the Seahawks will do next is anybody’s guess. In the upcoming draft, the Seahawks have a first round pick at number 18th nothing in rounds two and three. Seattle is slated to finish the draft with a fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh round pick.
The Seahawks have made one signing in the offseason and that was a contract extension to Bradley McDougald. All other transitions so far have been, cutting and releasing of players.
