The Seattle Sounders participated in their last training before Saturdays MLS Cup title defense against Toronto FC Friday afternoon and Sounders head coach spoke with the media.
- For the third time in Major League Soccer history, the same teams will meet again in MLS Cup in consecutive years when Toronto FC play host to Seattle Sounders FC in the 2017 MLS Cup. A year ago, Seattle Sounders FC won the first league title in the club’s history, capturing MLS Cup in a penalty shootout following a goalless draw at BMO Field.
- Toronto FC are the first regular season conference winner to advance to MLS Cup since 2011, when the LA Galaxy were the top seed in the Western Conference before winning MLS Cup. This year’s MLS Cup is the first time since 2011 that both finalists finished in the top two in their respective conferences.
- Seattle Sounders FC are bidding to become the fourth team to win MLS Cup in back-to-back seasons. The first were D.C. United, who won the first two MLS Cups in the league’s history (1996 and 1997). The last two have been the Houston Dynamo, winners in 2006 and 2007, and the LA Galaxy, winners in 2011 and 2012, both teams victors in the previous rematches.
