Jordan Morris Faces Quad Injury: Recovery Timeline and Impact

Jordan Morris has another hurdle to overcome.    After Wednesday’s team practices, Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer announced that the team’s all-time goal scorer suffered a Grade One quad injury eight minutes into the team’s 2-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids. Because it is a grade 1 strain, Morris is expected to have a quick recovery. While a four- to six-week timeline seems anything but quick, the injury could have been worse had it been a quad tear.

The injury is another setback for Mercer Island, which has had a history of injuries and, on the flip side, has had a history of overcoming those injuries. Morris started eight games and played in a total of 17 in 2025 due to a shoulder injury. In 2024, Morris suffered a hamstring injury, which sidelined him for 48 days, but he still managed to play 32 of 34 MLS games.

“ He will be fine said Schmetzer, “ Jordan  has overcome a lot of adversity in his life.”

Morris was diagnosed with   Type 1  Diabetes when he was 9 years old and has been an inspiration to those living with Diabetes. He started the Jordan Morris Diabetes  Foundation.

BETTER NEWS FOR DOTSON

The injury news was much more positive for  Federal Way Native Hassan Dotson, who left the game after a head collision in the 59th minute. Dotson was removed from the game as  a precautionary measure. The move proved prudent, as Dotson returned to practice with the team on Wednesday with no restrictions.

OVERALL GAME IMPRESSIONS

After looking at game tape, Schmetzer praised the play of  Synder Brunel, noting that the young kid has a bright future. As for his team’s play in the Rockies’ goal box, Schmetzer admitted his side could have played better.

“ I think we, I think we bypassed a lot of opportunities in the game. Our possession wasn’t great.
I think Colorado had some part in that. They are an  aggressive team, the way the game played out. You know, I think we could have played better,’ said Schmetzer.

The Rockies finished the game with the Lions’ share of possession at 57% to 43%.  The Sounders outshot the Rapids  15 to 8, with five shots on goal to the Rapids’ two .

GOOD DEFENSIVE EFFORT

One area Schmetzer was pleased with was his team’s defensive effort, which held the Rapids to just two shots on goal.

“Our expectation is that everyone defends, ‘ said Schmetzer. “ We have a solid back five with Yeimar, Jackson Ragen, Cristian Roldan,  Hassani Dotson,  Andrew Thomas and Alex on the right side. You then have Jesus Ferreira and Paul Arriola, who put in a constant effort, and Albert Rusnak, a smart defender who used his eyes to anticipate the play. And finally, you have Osaze DeRosario, who is a handful. “

The Sounders’ defense starts with high pressure from the forwards, who are then supported by the midfielders and backline, and eventually reaches the goalkeeper. The disciplined defending goal is to cause a turnover and have the Sounders break in transition and attack the opponents with an overload.
