Seattle General Manager John Schneider addressed the media Tuesday morning during his podium time at the NFL Combine. Schneider addressed a variety of the team’s upcoming priorities.
WOULD LIKE TO BRING EVERYONE BACK
Schnider was about the team’s chances of re-signing its unrestricted free agents. Safety Coby Bryant, CB Josh Jobe, Riq Woolen, Josh Jones, lb Boye Mafe, Chazz Surratt, wr Rashid Shaeed, RB Ken Walker III, and Dareke Young are all unrestricted free agents. While he did not address each player individually, Schneider said it would be cool to run it back. “ Run it back is what the cool kids say,” said Schneider. Schneider did confess that he flubbed his lines while speaking at the team’s trophy presentation when he jokingly mentioned that Walker had asked him about the contract.
“ I was never and just bloated out something, Ken did not say that, but it would be great to have him back, he’s better than anyone knows that it’s about the 70-man roster,’ said Schneider. “ We will begin those discussions with agents while we are down here, and it will be an interesting process.” Schneider also spoke specifically to the team’s desire to bring back special teams returner Rashid Shaheed, who had had a dramatic impact on the Seahawks Super Bowl.
“He knows that we’d love to have him back,” he said. “We’re down here trying to talk to everybody (to) get a feel for what the Spring’s going to look like,’ said Schneider.
SUPER SHRUNK HIS STUDY TIME
The Super Bowl run was a welcome distraction, but time has caught up with Schneider, who has to get up to speed with the quick turnaround.
“Yeah, I’ve got to get caught up,” said Schneider. “It’s really going to be about my private time, the studying and getting caught up with that,” he said. “… It’s like the discipline on the weekends to try to figure out how to get caught up, and we’ll get to it.” The rest of Schneider’s pre-draft team diligently went about their business, so it’s a matter of Schneider catching up.
BRIAN FLEURY HIRING
Big brain, adaptable, knows exactly what he wants, and what he was looking at when it came to our team were some of the attributes Schneider mentioned when asked to describe newly hired OC Brian Fleury. Schneider and head coach Mike Macdonald were both enamored with Fleury’s defensive play-calling background.
