KICKOFF TIME FOR SATURDAY GAME TBD
A resilient San Francisco 49ers earned a gutsy 23-13 win and knocked off the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles. The Niner held the Eagles to just six second-half points while its offense flexed its muscle with two touchdowns in the second and fourth quarters.
REMATCH FOR DIVISIONAL ROUND
Awaiting the Niners will be the Seahawks, who sat out the Wild Card Round and are looking to win two in a row and win the season series. Saturday’s match-up, with time to be determined, will be two weeks to the day since the regular season final for both teams. The Seahawks won the NFC’s No. 1 seed with a dominating 13-3 win in which the defense held the Niners’ offense to just 173 total yards. On the other side of the ball, the Seahawks offense racked up 361 total yards and a whopping 180 on the ground.
HOME PLAY OFF ADVANTAGE
Saturday’s game will be the first playoff game for the Seahawks with fans in the stands since 2016. The Seahawks hosted a Wild Card Playoff game in 2020, with no fans in the stands due to COVID-19 restrictions. Seahawks players are expecting a home-field advantage in the rubber match between the two NFC foes.
“ I’m so excited. I love playing in Lumen Field. Even from the outside perspective, it’s one of the best stadiums to play in,” said Leonard Williams earlier this week. “Being part of this organization and now actually playing in the stadium as a home team, it’s even more electric. You know, bringing the playoff games here is going to be incredible.”
The Seahawks’ defense led the league in rushing yards and scoring defense. The key to the Seahawks’ success has been efficient team tackling.
“ Get all 11 guys and make it feel like 12 to the football. We swarm the football. We play with relentless energy and swag. We’ve just got to go out there and have each other’s back,” said Devon Witherspoon. “Like I said, we promised ourselves back in OTAs that this is what we’re going to do, and this is who we’re going to be, and we’ve just held ourselves to that standard.” Seahawks will be back in the SuperBowl hunt on and play
