Thybulle leads Huskies to 64-55 win over Buffaloes

The Washington Huskies (22-5, 13-1) used their all to the familiar formula of sleepwalking the early the part-time of the first half, gather themselves long enough to hold a slim first-half lead then bolt out of the second half build a big lead then hang on for the win with ball-hawking shutdown defense. Husky forward Matisse Thybulle led the Huskies with 17 points, five blocked shots and six steals in the Huskies 64-55 win over Colorado Buffaloes (16-11, 7-8) in front of a sold out Alaska Airlines crowd.

The Huskies were outhustled up and down the court and outrebounded bringing shouts of hustle and rebound, rebound from Husky head coach Mike Hopkins. The Huskies were outrebounded 24 to 14, turned the ball over seven times and thanks to a 5-0 run the last two minutes of the first half found themselves holding on to 35 to 27 lead despite their early game transgressions.

A Mike Hopkins signature halftime pep talk saw the Huskies outscore the Buffaloes 9-2 to start the second half and build a 15 point lead that fluctuated to a high 18 points and a low as nine but the Huskies were able to hang on for their 14th win at home and earn a share of the Pac-12 regular season title with four games left to play in the regular season.

Colorado’s Tyler Bey finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds on 9-for-17 shooting to record his 13th career double-double and 11th of the season. D’Shawn Schwartz finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
