The Christian Faith Basketball teams continued with their best Road Warrior impression as the Women’s and Mens teams finished a second consecutive road trip with an impressive 4-1 record.
The Women’s team was on the winning end of there three-game road tilt as they won two of the three games while the Men’s team was perfect as they won both of there games.
Brittnee Williams scored a team-high 14 points and Gabby Wade’s 12 points and 11 rebound, double-double was the difference as the women easily defeated the Shoreline Dolphins 78 to 50.
Game two was not as easy for the Christian Faith Women as they lost a 69 to 63 heartbreaker to Evergreen State College despite incredible efforts from Wade (21pts,13reb), ReZina TecleMariam (19pts, 5asst, 3stls) and Darnellia Russell (16pts, 6stls).
” It was a tough game for us in that we had to keep battling from behind and when we pulled ahead we were unable to hold the lead down the stretch, Wade said after the game. “Give them credit they played and so did we but we just fell short.”
The CF Women were able to regroup and exact some revenge in the third game at Green River College with an 84 to 46 win. Ryli Erickson navigated the team through the swamp with 21pts, six rebounds, four assists, and five steals against the Gators. LeAsia Jones scored 12 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked two shots to record her first double-double of the season.
MENS TEAM PERFECT
The Men’s team had one less game than the Women’s team and won both games to record a perfect road trip. The first game at Edmonds Community College was no walk in the park as the team needed Kiante Woods 37th points (14-18 FG) and Destine Kawaka’s 20 points and 10 rebounds to pull out a 111-108 overtime win.
“We wanted to get Destine going early and help him have a great game playing against coach Kyle Gray – Destine’s former coach at Edmonds.” Said Kiante Woods. “He has put in a lot of work with coach Zach Gill and had shown that he was out of position playing the post during his two-year stint with the Tritons.”
For the Kawaka the game was more than just an opportunity to prove his old coach wrong. “Tonight was my first time playing with my CF brothers in two years. I haven’t been able to commit to the team recently the way I’d like, but I wasn’t going to miss this game for the world,” Kawaka said after the game.
“It was an opportunity to showcase my improved skillset in front of my former college coaches, I am thankful Zach and Kiante gave me the green light from the beginning and told me to just hoop with no self-doubt or regrets. Tonight might’ve been the most fun I’ve ever had playing basketball in an organized setting with refs.”
Woods took matters into his own hands in game two as he scored a game-high 25points and dished out seven assists in the 87 to 83 win over Green River College.
