It will be steady as it goes don’t change a thing Saturday Night when no. 6 University of Washington Huskies ( 4-0, 1-0 Pac 12) take on the Oregon State Beavers ( 1-3, 0-1) Saturday night ( 5 p.m. PT) at Reser Stadium in, Corvallis. While no one is suggesting the Huskies should become superstitious there is something to be said about leaving well enough alone.
After a lethargic offensive start to the season that relied on the special teams and defense, the Dogs offense has picked up the pace and completes what now looks like a team performing on all cylinders. The Huskies running game is in full throttle after recording 254 net rushing yards against the Colorado Buffaloes. Husky running back Myles Gaskin had 207 of the 254 and scored two touchdowns. The Huskies had 234 net rushing yards in the first three games.
The Beavers are allowing 198.8 rushing yards per game and have given up 878 rushing yards on the season. The Beavers offense is averaging 135.2 rushing yards per game and 220 passing yards. Quarterback Jake Browning has had success against the Beavers having completed 32 completions on 48 attempts ( 67 percent) for 502 yards, seven touchdowns, and zero interceptions.
Beavers coach Gary Andersen understands that his team will be in a tough physical battle Saturday night.
“You have to have a lot of toughness against (UW),” Andersen said. “This is a tough, tough football team. They bring their toughness to the field every single week. I’ve watched every game this year, I’ve watched every game last year, and that doesn’t change — that’s a constant factor with this team.”
GAME NOTES
- The Huskies have won eight straight road games (not counting neutral-site games). After the OSU game, the Dawgs return to Seattle to face California, Oct. 7.
- Washington holds a 62-34-4 record in the all-time series against Oregon State, having won the 21 of the last 29 meetings and 31 of the last 40, dating back to 1975.
- The series against the Beavers is the second-longest (to Stanford) active series in Washington football history in terms of years and third-longest in terms of total meetings (to Oregon and Washington State).
